Louise Marshall Hospital (a division of North Wellington Health Care) is a small Level 1 facility located in Mount Forest. Approximately 50 babies are born here every year, caught by family doctors and midwives. The labour and birth room is newly renovated and has a walk-in shower. Nitrous oxide and narcotic medications are available for pain relief.
Women experiencing healthy, low-risk pregnancies are eligible to give birth at Louise Marshall. This hospital is very similar to a birth center – epidurals and caesareans are not available here. A team of family practice physicians also attends births at the hospital and is available to assist us if any minor complications develop. If any significant complications develop during labour or a caesarean is needed, we will plan to transport to Groves Memorial Community Hospital, usually by ambulance, as there are no obstetricians at Louise Marshall.
